With this year and season of giving coming to a close, we want to take a moment to express our deep gratitude for your support on GivingTuesday and our annual year-end campaign. Your gifts, along with the $14,000 matching funds from generous anonymous donors, helped us to raise $42,669!
There is still time to make that number grow. Any additional year-end gifts will be added to that total and help us get closer to our goal of raising $50,000.
But your gifts are more than just numbers and totals. Your gifts provide more than 1,800 children in Haiti with daily meals, a safe environment to learn and grow, and a sense of stability in a place where each day is full of challenge and hardship. Most importantly, your gifts provide these children with a Christian education and the opportunity to grow in their faith every day. We consistently receive words of thanks from our directors to all of you for your prayers, support, and continued love for the children in Haiti.

Hurricane Update

We are thankful to share that our brothers and sisters in Christ in Haiti are safe following Hurricane Melissa. We have received messages sharing that some of the family members of school children have suffered property damage and business losses. Schools did have to close the week of the storm, but are now back open. Storms are always a challenge for the people of Haiti, so we praise God for His protection and thank you for keeping the children and communities of Haiti in your prayers.

For children in Haiti, the situation is bleak. Their homeland is the poorest nation in the western hemisphere and has the lowest literacy rate of just 61.7%. School fees are difficult to afford for many parents, as 75% of the population lives on $2.41 or less every day, yet education is a light and hope for the next generation and is desperately needed.
Branch Schools is a WELS affiliate, Lutheran non-profit organization that sends funding to six schools in Haiti; three elementary schools, hosted at three orphanages in the Port-au-Prince area, one middle school in Pilate, one preschool-kindergarten in Les Palmes, and one preschool-kindergarten in Cap-Haitien. These schools serve hundreds of students and employ over 60 teachers. A common saying in Haiti is that the country is "70% Catholic, 30% Protestant, and 100% Vodou." At Branch Schools, the children hear the Word of God in their classrooms every day and learn of the amazing love and salvation found in Jesus. They memorize the 10 Commandments, Apostles Creed, Lord's Prayer, and more as they dive into a thorough study of the Bible's teachings.
