OUR BACK-TO-SCHOOL GOAL: $25,000 Help us prepare to welcome more than 2,000 students! A new school year is just around the corner, and we are preparing to welcome nearly 2,000 students to Branch Lutheran Schools of Haiti. By the glory of God, we are anticipating classes to begin on September 14. That's just one week away! Before our students return, there is much work being done. Building projects are underway at our schools, septic work is needed at two locations, and several schools need repairs, new furniture, and supplies to make sure classrooms are ready for a new year of learning. This year, our Back-to-School fundraising goal is $25,000-and we need your help to reach it! Branch Schools continues to grow because more and more parents are seeing the value of a Christ-centered education for their children. With that growth comes the opportunity to reach more children with a quality education and the message of their Savior. But growth also brings greater needs. At three of the schools and orphanages in Port-au-Prince alone, the estimated cost of preparing for the 2026–2027 school year is nearly $37,000. These needs include benches and chairs, teachers' desks and blackboards, repairs and painting, children's supplies, uniforms and shoes, teachers' supplies, and other essential items. One of the school directors recently shared about the need for new furniture in their school. “Much of our furniture and chalkboards are old and unusable. In addition to this, more children are going to be attending our schools soon, so we would like to make sure they have benches and tables to do their work and continue their education.” These may seem like simple needs, but they have a direct impact on the learning environment. A sturdy bench gives a child a place to sit and learn. A functional teacher's desk gives a teacher a place to prepare lessons and serve their students. Repairs and fresh paint help make a classroom a welcoming place for children to spend their days. These are the everyday things that help make a school possible. The financial challenges extend beyond buildings and furniture. The cost of food and other essential goods continues to rise in Haiti, putting additional pressure on our school budgets. For example, a 110-pound bag of rice that cost $105 in December 2024 now costs approximately $130. A bag of flour has increased from $121 to $140, sugar from $105 to $135, and charcoal from $30 to $70. Some supplies are also becoming increasingly difficult to find because of road blockages and insecurity. As our enrollment grows and costs continue to increase, we are prayerfully trusting in the Holy Spirit to open the hearts to join us in supporting the children in Haiti.
